Motorcycle Jack One Piece of Equipment You Can't Live Without

A motorcycle jack is one of the first pieces of equipment a bike owner needs. Most every part of motorcycle maintenance requires you have one. You will find many different brands on the market. Most home mechanics need just a plain hydraulic jack. You need to find one that's stable and well built.

I have found most aluminum jacks are just too unstable and pricey. I found two that I recommend both are less than 100.00 and are good choices. Sears sells a good jack its stable and about 90.00. The other choice is sold by northern equipment and it runs about 90.00 both are good choices.

Both jacks have a 1500 lb capacity which is more than any bike I know of. If you cant find one of these be sure to check out one on display because you will find a lot of poorly designed jacks. After you find a jack you will need two tie down straps and don't skimp here get the ones made for motorcycles.

The straps are used to secure the bike to the jack to keep it from falling off the jack. Be sure when putting your bike on the jack that you have the jack centered so the weight from to back is equal to keep it from tipping and ruining your day. I prefer a jack that is pumped with a foot pad rather than a jack handle its easier to work with. With a foot pump it easier to keep the bike stale when lifting it. Once you have the bike up, secure the bike with the straps to the jack.

You will find things like oil changes, lubing the front wheel bearings and many other repairs much easier with a bike up off the ground.
